Flu vaccination programme starts next week
St Mary's Health Centre's 'flu vaccination programme will be offered across the islands over the next two weeks.
On St Mary's, a drop-in clinic (for adults) will be held at the Health Centre on Saturday, October 7th from 10am until 12 noon and on Wednesday, October 11th from 4pm to 6pm.
Off island clinics for both adults and children are planned as follows and must be pre-booked:
Tresco - September 26th from 2pm
Bryher - September 28th from 2pm
St Martins - October 4th from 2pm
St Agnes - October 5th from 2pm
Everyone over 65 years of age, pregnant women and those with long-term health conditions such as Diabetes, Asthma, COPD, Heart, Liver or Kidney Disease or immune system problems are usually advised to have a ‘flu vaccination.
Any patients who are not sure of their eligibility, have any queries or are not available on these dates are advised to contact the Health Centre on 01720 422628.
Practice nurse Fran Clark said: "We have one the highest rates for 'flu vaccine uptake in the country, which means we are more able to protect vulnerable people in the community and stop the spread of the virus.
"Those who care for other people should also consider having the vaccine. The more people who have the vaccination the greater the community is protected, although we are only able to vaccinate those carers who are formally registered."
Children eligible for the ‘flu nasal spray vaccine will be contacted by the Health Centre in due course. This year all 2 - 8/9 year olds are included in the programme (up to and including school year 4).
