This year's race in June saw 97 teams of two make it to the finish line - including six local teams - running a total of 29.5km and swimming 8km each.
Potential participants in ÖTILLÖ Swimrun Isles of Scilly and the following day's sprint have to race in a team of two, both of whom are at least 18 and able to swim. Each team member needs to have a valid insurance for swimrun or sports similar to swimrun.
The entry fee for the main World Championships race is €420, including a drink at the race briefing and dinner after the race. The ÖTILLÖ Sprint Isles of Scilly is €150, including race, safety, timing and race cap.
The organisers of the islands' Swimrun donated £10 of every competitor's 2017 entry fee to the Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust.
Gareth Peters (pictured top of page), who lived on St Mary's at the time, competed in the Swimrun with Nick Lishman. He wrote about the his experience in Scilly Now & Then magazine, calling the race a "truly gruelling emotional and physical challenge and one of the best experiences of my life".

Helen Pearce (right), who entered the following day's Sprint race with husband Julian, said: "It was so well organised, a lot of fun and I would encourage anyone to have a go. We can't wait to enter next year's ÖTILLÖ Scilly sprint."
