Fire breaks out on King Edward's Road
A fire broke out in the area of Peninnis Farm on St Mary's in the early hours of this morning.
Fire crews, police and coastguards were at the site to tackle the blaze, which began at around 3.30am.
The path to Buzza Hill and the top end of Church Road are cordoned off.
An onlooker said: "The fire crew have got the pump going from the hydrant in Church Road. They're very professional and well organised. I was convinced it was fireworks to start with, there were lots of popping noises like firecrackers or similar.
"I realised it was not over Town, so I looked towards the Health Centre...The sky rapidly filled will sparks as though giant glow-worms were swarming. The breeze appeared to take it all in a south-easterly direction."
The fire appears to be under control as of 6am. The exact location and further details are not yet known. UPDATE 11:30 am
Thankfully no one was hurt. The fire (now out) was in one of the barns at Peninnis Farm. The glamping site was evacuated as a caution.
Unconfirmed at this point, This Is Scilly have been told that police fire investigators are flying over today. Again unconfirmed, there were gas canisters in the Barn which split rather than exploded. Church Road is now open. More to follow.
