Hospital Matron: 'Fete support was amazing'
The Matron of St Mary's Hospital has described the money raised by last week's Summer Fete as "amazing".
Thursday's event in aid of the St Mary's League of Hospital and Community Friends made £3,630.
The impressive sum includes £2,671 from a raffle with more than 100 prizes organised by Tracey Guy, with help from Lisa Williams, Chantelle Nangle and Jock MacDonald.
Matron Anita Bedford told This is Scilly: "A fantastic turn out by locals and visitors alike for the St Mary's Hospital fete. The fete raised £3,630.18p - an amazing amount of money from our small community - supporting and valuing our community Hospital and the service it provides 24/7, 52 weeks of the year.
"A heart felt thank you to the businesses and people who contributed to the raffle prizes, made cakes, provided bric-a-brac and generously gave up their time to make this event a success. Money raised will go towards furnishing the Palliative Care suite and relatives room."
League of Friends Secretary Jenny Byers added: "It was an amazing turn-out and all the better for the sun being out. Lots of crafty things had been made and loads of cakes plus cream teas. That was no small effort; the community had gone full out to support this with prizes from almost all the businesses and more."
