Steamship Group denies lorry park plans

July 21, 2017

The Isles of Scilly Steamship Group has denied claims that it wishes to create a lorry park in Penzance.

Lobbying group Future Penzance, which campaigns for investment in the town, yesterday claimed on social media that the organisation is "eyeing" the former Lidl site as a possible location for such a facility.

The post read: "'It seems that the former Lidl's site is not going to be a pub / restaurant after all as the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company are eyeing it up for a lorry park."

However, a spokesman for the Isles of Scilly Steamship Group said that it has no such plans, telling This is Scilly: "We are looking at a range of opportunities and sites that could improve the passenger and freight handling experience on Penzance quay.

"No decisions have been made and we are not going to speculate about any specific location. What we can say is that any such facility would most certainly not be a lorry park.”
