All six local teams made it across the finish line in today's ÖTILLÖ Swimrun.
Team Swimshop.se (Stefano Prestinoni and Fredrik Axegard) from Sweden were the overall winners of the race in a time of 4 hours, 42 minutes and 8 seconds.
The first Scilly team to finish were Splashy and Dashy, aka Wez Swain and Alison Stedeford. They finished in 31st place in a time of 6:29:47.
First-timer Wez said of the race: "The way the course is set up it just gets longer and harder. But it's spectacular. It's easy to smile when the sun's shining and that makes a massive difference."
Of working closely with teammate Alison, he said: "That was great. Every time I felt low Alison picked me up and any time she felt low I picked her up. So it's brilliant peer pressure. People talk about peer pressure as a bad thing but it's great in things like this."
He added that he was "really, really pleased" with the result, saying: "I teach swimming to 90 students so it was an awful lot of pressure!"
Not far behind Wez and Alison were Two Scilly Men - Dave Hooper and Roland Kelly - in 36th with 6:36:59.
Ruth Nicholls and Steven Gibson finished 43rd in 6:42:16.
They were followed by Adventure Scilly 1 (Bryony Lishman and Jack Plummer) in 53rd with 6:59:36 and Adventure Scilly 2 (Nick Lishman and Gareth Peters) in 62nd on 7:12:28.
John Garman and Mark Worledge came in 76th in a time of 7:29:07.
Team Smiles - Tresco Triathlon winner Noel Miles and his wife Emily, who was the fastest swimmer in the triathlon - finished in 30th place.
Some 97 pairs made it to the finish line, running a total of 29.5km and swimming 8km each.
The race started by Holgate's Green at 10am and followed a clockwise route around the islands, taking in Tresco, Bryher, Tresco again, St Helen's, Tean, St. Martin's and back to St. Mary's.
More than 30 teams are expected to take part in a Sprint Race around the perimeter of St Mary's tomorrow. The race starts at 11am in front of Holgate's Green.
