The Tourist Information Centre is to benefit from a legacy left to the Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust.
The Trust, which received the donation from a long-standing visitor to the islands, is working with the Islands’ Partnership to keep the TIC open following a funding cut.
At a January meeting, the Council of the Isles of Scilly opted not to renew its direct funding of the TIC in the light of budgetary pressures, although the Schiller shelter continues to be provided to the IP at a peppercorn rent of £2 per week.
Executive Director David Jackson told Radio Scilly: “[The IP and Wildlife Trust] already have a close relationship – working together on events such as Walk Scilly and the Ötillö Swim-run World Series Qualifier. So it’s fantastic that the Trust has agreed to extend this by supporting our running of the TIC.
“They will undoubtedly add value to the fantastic service and invaluable advice, information and local knowledge our team already provide.”
