Crime writer pens Theatre Club summer play
Crime author Kate Rhodes has written St Mary's Theatre Club's new summer play.
Kate, who wrote Scilly-set thrillers Hell Bay and Ruin Beach, penned a murder mystery play for the Club to perform for charity and they have now decided it is perfect for their summer production.
Chairman Linda Thomas said: "We were asked last year if we would do a murder mystery evening for a charity event. I had a look around for something nautical but didn't find anything. Kate Rhodes was over last year and did a workshop and meet the author session in the library. I asked her if she would consider writing a murder mystery for us set on the islands. So she did!"
The play, called A Scilly Mystery, is set on a luxury yacht moored between Tresco and St Agnes. The first proper reading will take place during the Creative Scilly festival, at which Kate Rhodes is due to appear. Meanwhile, Kate Hale, who played Linda's sidekick in the recent pantomime and has worked with Foresight Theatre, will direct the production.
Theatre Club is now looking for new actors of both sexes, ideally under the age of 40, to take part.
A play reading will take place at the Lyonnesse Bar in the Scillonian Club at 7pm on Thursday (March 7th). Anyone is welcome to attend.
Hell Bay, Ruin Beach and follow-up Burnt Island have been optioned for TV, with a pilot due to be filmed later this year. Ruin Beach was released in paperback on February 21st.
