New Radio Scilly team excited about station's future

The new team behind Radio Scilly have expressed their excitement about the future of the station.

Pending Ofcom approval, George Goldberg will take over as Managing Director, with mainlanders Dave Bradshaw and Bob Bate becoming directors alongside Steve Sims.

Islander George will be the local face of the station, while Dave and Bob have a wealth of radio experience. Dave’s professional career spans 32 years, while Bob has previously worked as a freelance reporter for BBC regional radio in the South West and was one of the voices for Radio 4's Any Answers programme, reading out letters from listeners.

George said: "I’m really looking forward to working with everyone at Radio Scilly over the coming years to strengthen the foundations of the station and ensure it continues to serve the community here on Scilly and our many friends and visitors for years to come.

"As a resident of St Mary’s myself, I look forward to working to support the local businesses who advertise with Radio Scilly, and encouraging growth in the range of radio programs produced and presented locally."

Dave said the new team have lots of ideas about how to develop the station.

He said: "I am absolutely thrilled to have been selected on to the new board of directors announced earlier today by Radio Scilly.

"Together with fellow broadcaster Bob Bate, along with George Goldberg and Steve Sims, I know we have an enthusiastic and capable team to lead the station into a bright future.

"We are already discussing some of the changes we wish to introduce, which, over time, will lead to more hours of locally-produced programmes that are sure to delight old and new listeners in the Isles of Scilly and beyond.

"We are also looking to increase the number of live outside broadcasts over the coming year and increasing the overall number of live, personality-driven, programmes in the schedule.

"Together with the experienced team already at Radio Scilly, I am confident that the new board will be successful in bringing in changes that will be embraced by the station's listeners."
