RNLI member receives Long Service Award
A St Mary's Lifeboat crew member has received a Long Service Award.
Kevin Sherris who was presented with his 30 year RNLI Long Service Award on Saturday at the St Mary's RNLI Christmas party at On The Quay.
The RNLI wrote on social media: "Kevin joined the service in 1988 when the station used the RNLB Arun Class 'Robert Edgar'.
"He has countless memories from his time with the RNLI, including the evacuation of crew from the 1997 'Cita' that ran aground off the Isles of Scilly and the longest shout he has ever attended, the dismasted 'Fryderyk Chopin', a 20-hour marathon call to a vessel 100 miles out to sea carrying 36 teenagers."
Kevin said on receiving the award: "When you join the RNLI, you join a family. I am very proud to be part of that family."
