Scilly businesses recognised at Cornwall Tourism Awards


The Isles of Scilly scooped three prizes at last night’s Cornwall Tourism Awards.

The Tourist Information Centre team won a silver award in the Visitor Information Service of the Year category at the ceremony at Truro Cathedral.

Hell Bay Hotel won silver in the Small Hotels category, with Karma St Martins highly commended.

Karma St Martins also won a bronze award for Dog Friendly Business of the Year, while Longstone Cafe and The Nook (Seriously Scilly) were highly commended in the Cafe/Tearoom and Self-catering Accommodation categories respectively.

The ceremony was described as the "largest ever celebration of Tourism Excellence", with 398 guests enjoying a high-tech light show in the cathedral.

Now in its 17th year, the awards saw 80 awards presented across 26 categories.

Head of Visit Cornwall, Malcolm Bell, commented: “The awards shine the spotlight of excellence on some of our best and leading tourism operators in Cornwall. It is this excellence that makes Cornwall one of, if not the leading, UK holiday regions. It celebrates not only the businesses but also the team work from staff, Managers and owners as only team work can deliver excellence.”

Successful businesses in the Cornwall Awards will be fast tracked into he South West Tourism Excellence Awards in February 2019, to be held for the first time under Concorde at Aerospace Bristol.
