Radio Scilly changes ownership
The islands' local radio station Radio Scilly Ltd has changed hands.
This is Scilly News editor Beth Hilton is the new Managing Director, assisted by husband Steve Sims.
Former MD Zoe Parry said: "It’s been a fantastic two and half years and I wish to thank everybody for their help and support in continuing to keep Radio Scilly up and running! As many of you will be aware I took the station over to save it from closure on 1st March 2016.
"Since that time I have been delighted to take it back to traditional community radio and re-open links with the school, local council and the clubs on the islands’ to bring you as many local voices and views as possible.
"Radio Scilly is now ready for development and I have every faith that it will go from strength to strength under the ownership.
"Will Lethbridge will continue to anchor the morning show and Abi Wrigley will be providing out and about interviews for the station. Once again, thanks to everybody for playing a part in keeping our special little station thriving."
Beth said: "Thanks so much to Zoe for the wonderful job she has done with the station over the last two and a half years. Hers will be exceptionally hard shoes to fill.
"We have introduced a daily local news bulletin, but otherwise you won't notice many changes at first. We'd love as many locals as possible to be involved, especially from the off-islands, so do get in touch if you fancy hearing your dulcet tones over the airwaves. In the meantime, please bear with us through the technical snafus, tongue-tiedness and other live radio gaffes as we find our feet over the next few weeks."
Steve added: "We're really excited about taking on Radio Scilly and have loads of ideas, a couple of which may even come to fruition. I'd particularly like to encourage people to drop into the studio for a chat when we're on air, especially if they have nothing in particular to say."
