TIC staff thrilled by tourism awards nod
Staff at the Isles of Scilly Tourist Information Centre have said they are thrilled to be shortlisted for this year’s Cornwall Tourism Awards.
The TIC has been recognised with just two other finalists in the Visitor Information Service of the Year category.
Tourist Information Assistant Maggie Wagstaff said of the accolade: "We're absolutely delighted. The whole team have worked so hard for this and we're thrilled.
"Two years ago we were highly commended and we hoped to do better this year and we're pleased that we have."
Of the reasons for the TIC's success, she said: "We're really good at our social media. We're warm and welcoming, hopefully! We try to find out everything that people want to know. If we don't have that knowledge we try to find it out. I think we try to do whatever people want from us."
Sue Sherris, who left the TIC two weeks ago, added that she is "really chuffed" for the team, describing the recognition as the result of a "lot of hard work".
Fellow Scilly businesses Hell Bay Hotel and Karma St Martin's are also shortlisted in the Small/Boutique Hotel of the Year and Dog Friendly Business of the Year categories respectively.
The finalists at the Cornwall Tourism Awards will be honoured with either a Gold, Silver or Bronze gong at this year’s ceremony, which takes place at Truro Cathedral on November 1st.
Successful businesses in the Cornwall Awards will be fast tracked into the South West Tourism Excellence Awards in February 2019 and possibly invited to represent Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly in the 2018/2019 National VisitEngland Awards.
