Bishop & Wolf raises £1600 with Bank Holiday event

The Bishop & Wolf has raised £1,600 for Macmillan Cancer Support with its Charity Bank Holiday Festival of Fun.

The weekend event featured a cider and ale festival, children's fancy dress party, adults fancy dress competition, disco, karaoke and auction of promises.

The pub is leaving its donation buckets on the bar for the rest of the week and hopes to reach its target of £2,000.

Landlady Emma Squire said she is "really happy" with the amount raised, saying she has never held an ale festival or auction of promises before and was pleased with the result - although she added that it would have been nice to have a few more locals turn out to support the event.

She also praised the high standard of costumes in the fancy dress contest, which was won by Sinea Williams, followed by Matt Simons then Sue Sherris and Maggie Wagstaff. Sinea donated her £100 winnings back to the cause. Suzy Hiron and Becky Lock (right) finished fourth with their homemade Bishop and Wolf outfits.

Bar manager George McNeil wrote on Facebook: "We're overwhelmed by everyone's generosity, it makes us feel so proud to be part of us a great community."

The event's compere Becky Hicks, who also donated half her pay, said on her own page: "What a great weekend this was and I’m so proud to have been part of it! For such a worthy cause also. Well done everyone involved."
