Tresco Fete to take place on Sunday
The first of the islands' summer fetes takes place this weekend.
Tresco Fun Day & Fete is on Sunday 27th May, kicking off the half term week on the Isles of Scilly.
The traditional island fete starts at 11:30am on the community centre field near Old Grimsby.
The event will include live music, traditional stalls and fete games, fun sports day events, food and drink, pony rides and more.
Boats will be available from all the other islands, making the event a highlight for anyone staying on the Isles of Scilly this half term.
Organiser Emma Lainchbury, who works in the Tresco Abbey Garden, said: “We wanted to do something different this year. Usually the island fetes all take place within a few weeks during the summer, so we thought: why not kick off the May half term in style for all the families who visit at this time of year.”
Visitors and islanders can enjoy traditional fete stalls including the coconut shy, hoopla, and throwing games, as well as getting competitive with fun sports day events including the egg and spoon, sack race and space hopper races.
Live music at the event will be courtesy of the Isles of Scilly Folk Festival, which this year includes acclaimed four-piece band Kelly’s Heroes.
The Tresco Fun Day will raise money for Tresco and Bryher Gig Rowing Club and the Tresco Community Centre. In 2017, the event raised £5,300 for the two causes.
The Tresco Fun Day takes place this Sunday 27th May from 11:30am until 3:30pm.
