'Disruption expected' after Lyonesse Lady fire
The Isles of Scilly Steamship Group has said that it "expects some disruption" to off-island freight after a fire broke out in the engine room of Lyonesse Lady yesterday.
In a message to off-island freight customers, the company said that it has had to suspend its freight operation while the vessel awaits inspection by an engineer tomorrow.
The message read: "You may be aware that the Lyonesse Lady had a small fire on board this morning (which was quickly extinguished by the crew) and is currently in the harbour awaiting inspection by an engineer. This will happen on Monday but it means that unfortunately we have had to suspend our usual freight operation until then.
"James Stedeford with Falcon has been helping the Swift Lady carry chilled and time sensitive goods today, but it means that other freight will have to be be stored accordingly and delivered to those affected from Monday.
"The Duchy's Pegasus and the Falcon will provide cover until the Lyonesse is back in service and we are grateful for their help. During this time we do expect some disruption to freight deliveries but we will do our best to ensure that this is kept to a minimum."
It added: "We appreciate your understanding and apologise for the inconvenience caused. We will send out another update on Monday once the Lyonesse has been inspected."
