Applications invited to run Bryher Shop
The Duchy of Cornwall is looking for someone to take over the running of Bryher Shop and Post Office.
Zoe Dan recently revealed that she will leave the store in September after eight years.
Duchy Land Steward Luke Humphries told This is Scilly: "Zoe has done a fantastic job of running Bryher Shop since it opened in 2011 and I would like to thank her for making such a huge contribution to the community and local economy in that time.
"We are now working closely with Zoe to help to find a suitable new operator to take over her business and continue to provide this essential facility at the heart of island life. It is encouraging that she has already received expressions of interest from would-be shopkeepers and would be delighted to continue to take enquiries over the next few weeks.
"The shop’s long-term sustainability is our priority and so applicants will be asked to provide evidence of their experience and future plans for the business.”
A post on Bryher Shop's Facebook page reads: "If you are genuinely interested in this business opportunity then please message us on here or email firstname.lastname@example.org. For interested parties information, the accommodation that comes with the shop is a one bedroom flat with large open plan living area and garden."
Tom Matthews, who runs Bryher Campsite with partner Joanne, said: "We’re positive there will be lots of interest in this unique opportunity to take on the brilliant shop Zoe has built up over the past eight years. Zoe has really made the shop the heart of the community and an essential island service, and we’re certain someone will grasp this opportunity.
“Every summer, so many people say to us that they wish they never had to leave Bryher, and this is their chance! We did just that with Bryher Campsite a few years ago and have honestly never looked back."
He added: “We’re sure that for somebody - either on Scilly or further afield - this will be the opportunity of a lifetime.”
