ISSG lights up Penzance Dry Dock for Christmas

The Isles of Scilly Steamship Group has made a 'substantial financial donation' to Penzance's Christmas lights.

This year's lights, which follow the theme ‘Christmas Bells’, were switched on on Saturday afternoon.

As well as donating money to the Penzance Business Improvement District (BID)'s Celebration of Light project, the Steamship Group has also decorated the Abbey Warehouse and Penzance Dry Dock, where the Scillonian III is currently housed for the winter.

ISSG Managing Director Mark Howarth said: “The town of Penzance lies very close to our hearts as it’s the base for our freight and passenger services. By contributing to the Penzance BID’s Christmas lights project, we feel we are able to give something back to a town that gives us so much.

“Christmas is a special time and the Penzance Christmas lights always look amazing and bring hundreds of visitors to the town. We hope that by decorating the warehouse and dry dock we can help Penzance BID put on the biggest and best display yet.

“The dock area of Penzance will look fantastic this year because the Penzance Dry Dock, Abbey Warehouse and St Mary’s Church will all be lit up meaning this area of the seafront will be dazzling.”

The lights on the Abbey Warehouse and Penzance Dry Dock were installed in time for the official Penzance Christmas lights switch-on on November 25th, and are expected to remain on display until January 2nd.

The Steamship Group is also helping Isles of Scilly residents by offering two special day shopping trips to Truro with Skybus.

The trips, on December 7th and 14th, are on sale to all islanders and include return flights from St Mary’s Airport to Newquay Airport and taxi transfers between the airport and Truro city centre.

They cost £90 per person, a saving of £70 on full price day trips and over £23 on regular Travel Club tickets, as well as transfers included.
