Local boatman helps raise £4,000 for Air Ambulance

Boatman Dave Badcock has helped raise £4,000 for Cornwall Air Ambulance by collecting money from passengers on his tripper boat Britannia.

The sum is the largest since Dave and his dad started collecting for the charity around 20 years ago.

Dave, who has a collection bucket in the middle of the boat throughout the season, told This is Scilly: "Every time I come back from a trip I always make an announcement on the PA hoping the passengers have had a good day and make them aware of the charity I collect for and give a little talk about the Air Ambulance and what they do. Money flies in the bucket."

His goal this year was to make £4,000. Although he fell short by just £95 at the end of the season, locals quickly rallied to boost the figure.

In other fundraising news, children from the Five Islands School's Tresco and Bryher bases recently raised £1,350 for the Medical Launch Trust through a sponsored walk around St Martins.

Martha Eggins from Hillside Farm on Bryher also raised £380 for the Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust by selling her homemade bug magnets to locals and visitors.
