Islander missing from Torquay care home

UPDATE - Sue has been found safe.

An islander with dementia has gone missing from her Torquay care home.

Susan Hicks, former wife of St Agnes farmer Johann Hicks, was a celebrity chef in the 1980s. She hosted BBC cookery show The Fish Course, wrote several successful cook books and appeared on the radio.

However, she later told Radio 4's Home Truths programme that her life subsequently began to unravel and she found herself 'alone, jobless and homeless'.

Devon & Cornwall Police said yesterday: "Police are appealing to the public to help them locate a missing person from Torquay. Susan Hicks is a dementia sufferer and is missing from her care home in Vane Hill, Torquay since this morning.

"She is described as white, 5'7" tall, medium build, long shoulder length grey hair, wearing green hat with flowers almost like a combat type hat, black handbag, blue jeans.

"She may appear confused when approached. If you have seen her or know of her whereabouts, please immediately call 999 quoting log number 194 for the 25th of August."

Susan lived at Parade Flats on St Mary's prior to moving to Torquay.
