Captain Dave Stone and Vice-Captain Mike Skaife presented a cheque to Cornwall Air Ambulance agents Sam and Jan Guy at the club yesterday.

LLoyds Bank will also look to match the money raised pound for pound.

Dave, who manages Lloyds on the islands, told This is Scilly: "On Captain's Day the Captain gets to decide what happens, who we raise money for, what competitions to do. We ran a series of challenges and competitions on Saturday, including 9-hole and 18-hole contests, and people were invited to either make donations or pay to enter a challenge. The money we raised from that goes to Cornwall Air Ambulance."

Tony Gilbert was the star of the day, earning the best score and a hole in one on the fourth, while Dave Corners won the 9-hole competition. After the events, members enjoyed a barbecue courtesy of Club Stewards Pete and Tania Reynolds.

Sam said after accepting the cheque: "Scilly is very good at fundraising. The problem is there are so many good charities around. But the Air Ambulance is one we get a lot of support for."

Jan said: "It's very good when local people do something like this, especially when it's a bank because Lloyds are looking to match the funding."

She added: "I always say to people about the Air Ambulance, please support it but try not to use it!"

Dave and Mike thanked everyone who participated in this year's Captain's Day.
