Request for two new fixed trading sites withdrawn
Planning applications for two new fixed trading sites in Hugh Town have been withdrawn.
The proposals, listed on July 4, were to 'provide a fixed trading site for a mobile food and beverage business' by the Park on the Parade and also on the Lower Strand.
The area by the Park was previously used by mobile gourmet burger van 28 Mile Grill, which is currently operating from the quay.
The withdrawals follow a flurry of objections from nearby residents to both sites - some 14 to the Lower Strand and four to the Parade.
One of the objectors queried whether the 28 Mile Grill burger van had been granted a fixed trading license before a site could be found.
Sue Pritchard, the Council's Senior Officer: Democratic and Licensing, responded: "Members were particularly anxious to provide a third fixed site trading position for the trader when he was unsuccessful in the expression of interest for the site at the rear of the Town Hall.
"Officers tried to find sites which might be appropriate in consultation with Members, so that a Planning Application might be made at a later date. No licence was issued."
