Folk Festival to go ahead with reduced programme
Isles of Scilly Folk Club chairman Roz Hicks has said that this month's Folk Festival will be "wonderful", despite the reduced programme.
The five-day Isles of Scilly Folk Festival has this year been billed 'St Mary's Folk Weekend' after the new organiser had to pull out for personal reasons.
He posted on Facebook yesterday: "It is with regret we have to let you know that the full festival will not be going ahead this month. However the guys at the Isles of Scilly Folk Club have stepped in to offer a reduced programme - the St. Mary's Folk Weekend, with sessions, a shout, a barn dance and the festival 'house band' Dalla."
The Folk Club have traditionally run the festival but Roz had decided she was going to retire. However, the group have taken it back for this year to ensure that some sort of event goes ahead.
She said: "We're putting it on in St Mary's on a smaller scale. It's still going to be a busy weekend with lots going on.
"Dalla, who have done every Folk Festival we've had, will do whatever we want them to do around town. We may have some music on Holgate's green if the weather's nice. There will be that impromptu atmosphere.
"There will be the barn dance on Friday and Dalla in concert on Saturday, both at the Town Hall. Then we'll have the usual Shout (sing-a-long) at Old Town Inn and our normal welcome and farewell sessions, as well as other sessions in various pubs. The only real difference is that we won't be going to the off-islands." The Folk Festival will return next year with a full programme.
Roz added of this year's event, which kicks off on May 25th: "There will be a lot of music and merriment, just on a smaller scale. It's still going to be wonderful!"
The amended itinerary is below.
